What to check first
- Whether the backup failure affects one system or multiple systems
- Whether the job failed once or repeatedly
- Whether storage, permissions, or connectivity changed recently
- Whether there are any related server or endpoint alerts
When to escalate
- Repeated failed backup jobs
- No recent valid restore point
- Critical systems or shared data affected
- Backup failure during an active incident or outage
