What to Do About a Suspicious Text Message

Use this guide for suspicious login alerts, package scams, fake invoices, and other unexpected text messages.

Treat unknown texts as untrusted
Do not tap links, call numbers in the message, or enter passwords from a text message prompt.

Recommended steps

  • Do not click the link in the message.
  • Do not reply to the sender.
  • Take a screenshot of the message.
  • Create a ticket and include the phone number, message text, and any action already taken.
  • Delete the message only after it has been documented if needed.

  • Bank or Microsoft 365 login prompts
  • Verification code scams
