What to Do If You See Admin or Elevation Prompts

Some troubleshooting steps may require system permissions. Only approve prompts when you are actively working with OpenTech and understand the request.

Never approve unexpected prompts
If an elevation or admin prompt appears unexpectedly, pause and confirm the reason with the technician first.

What to do

  1. Read the prompt carefully before clicking anything.
  2. Confirm with the OpenTech technician why the prompt is needed.
  3. Only continue if you are confident the action is part of the current troubleshooting session.
  4. If the prompt looks unusual, stop and ask for clarification.

Good safety habits

  • Do not type credentials into unknown tools or pages
  • Do not approve elevation requests outside an active support session
  • Ask the technician to explain the next step before proceeding
